christmas branding - SPL Hope

As we cannot gather together to celebrate Christmas as we usually would do, we would like to invite as many of you as possible to take part in our Christmas Choir Project and record yourself singing carols that will then be shared as part of our Carols by Candelight service online at 6.30pm on Sunday 20th December.

If you would like to take part, please read through the information below.

Thank you!
Debbie Hines
Worship Pastor

Virtual Christmas Choir 2020
Thank you for participating in this choir.  The final videos will feature in our online Carols By Candlelight service, and will also be shared with other churches for use in their Christmas services.
You do not have to record every carol, just those you feel comfortable with.  The guide tracks, words/music and upload links are available further down this page.
"Hark the Herald" and "Silent Night" are contemporary arrangements.  Please feel free to sing the tune or to harmonise.  If you want to provide more than one audio track, e.g. tune and harmony, that is fine.  Please avoid voicing consonants at the ends of lines unless very lightly and with exactly the timing sung on the guide track; this will help us avoid "Rising with healing in his wings-s-s-s-s".  For groups singing "Risen with healing in his win..." is fine – only one person needs to sing the "s" for it to be heard.
"Ding Dong Merrily"
is a traditional arrangement for four part choir.  Please watch the conductor closely – you do not want to be the person holding a note when everyone else has stopped!  Please also note the dynamics marked in the music.
For "Away in a Manager" we would love to have some children backed by an adult choir.   You are also welcome to submit instrumental tracks.
Please play the guide tracks on one device with headphones on while recording yourself (both video and audio) on another device. We want you to record just your voice, which will be mixed with the rest of the choir and instrumental tracks.  Some of you will have a vocal microphone but recording on a smart phone is also OK. Please record your video in landscape, in other words, hold the phone sideways! Fill up the picture with yourself as much as possible. A plain background like a white wall works best, but we do not mind too much. If you prefer you can record the audio and video separately and send us two files (one for the audio mix and one for the music video).

Please upload your contributions by 6.00pm on Monday 16th November using the relevant Upload links below
Feel free to wear your favouite Christmas jumper, bauble earrings or tinsel in your hair!

Planning your Visit

Whoever you are, wherever you’re from, and whatever your life looks like right now, we’d love to welcome you to St Peter’s. Everyone’s invited; just come. We meet for our Sunday service at 10am, here’s what to expect when you come:

Most of us hesitate before walking into a place full of strangers, but don't panic – you will be welcome and there's no need to take part in anything you’re not comfortable with. We all come as we are, so there's no need to dress up - wear something that makes you feel comfortable.

Where and When

We meet in the main Church building on the corner of Treadaway Hill and Kingsmead Road at 10am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team, if you're unsure where to sit then our team will help you to a seat.

We serve tea and coffee from 9:45am in the small hall opposite the Church, before the service begins. It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

Plan your journey:
Our car park is quite small and on Sundays it's reserved for those who have mobility difficulties.
Additional parking is available on the Treadaway Estate opposite the church car park entrance. When making use of the parking on the business estate please only park alongside the fence-line parallel to the businesses. If parking on surrounding residential streets please be considerate as we want to be good neighbours.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up.

Our Service

Our 10am service is an informal service of contemporary worship for all the family. The service begins with a time of all-age worship before children join their groups. Each week we hear a relevant message from the Bible and take time to pray together and respond to what God is saying and doing as we worship. Once a month we share in Holy Communion together.

What about my kids?

We have a great programme lined up for kids of all ages:

  • The Ark (0 months to 3 years)
  • Little Lions (3-5 years)
  • All Stars (5-10 years)
  • St Peter's Youth (11+ years)

Children stay with their parent or grown-up at the start of the service for the welcome and worship. We really value worshipping God altogether as a family. At the end of the family worship someone will announce that it’s time for the younger members to go to their various groups. You will need to go with your children to their groups and register them as part of our child safety policy.
Please collect your children at the end of the service from their relevant group.
